STORM PREPARATION · 3 MIN READ

After a storm: a homeowner’s roof checklist.

Once conditions are safe, a few ground-level observations can help you explain a roofing concern without climbing onto the roof.

Look from a safe place

Check for obvious missing roof materials and debris from the ground. Inside, note new ceiling stains or active water entry. Avoid unstable ceilings and wet electrical fixtures, and leave roof access to professionals.

Record what changed

Write down when you first noticed the problem and whether it appears during particular weather. Keep your photos and previous roof paperwork together. This provides a clearer starting point for an assessment than relying on memory.

Ask for an assessment, then a scope

Share your concerns with a roofing professional and ask for documented findings. Discuss any immediate protection needed and the recommended repair plan. If the property has multiple buildings, specify which structure is affected.
